Pink Katydid? - Melanoplus femurrubrum - female

Pink Katydid? - Melanoplus femurrubrum - Female
Pine City, Chemung County, New York, USA
September 10, 2014
I recently found this pink grasshopper in a meadow. Can someone help me with ID please. Is this called Erythrism? Thanks

Moved
Moved from Melanoplus.

a female Melanoplus sp.
Interesting coloration. Usually these are brownish.

Coloration
I believe this is a genetic mutation. I have seen it before in populations of UK Meadow Grasshoppers, but never here in the US. I found one newsreel report that sad it was rare but would like to know if that is true.

According to the info page, these occasionally come in several different color morphs, including pink.

Maybe others will have more insights.
