brown yellow white spider - Latrodectus hesperus - Male
sacramento , sacramento County, California, USA
September 24, 2014
Size: 1/2"
This spider lives under my door way in the front outside. Doesn't seem to be harmful, but being I am arachniphobic, I don't intend on touching it any time soon. It has a cool yellow and white pattern on it, unfortunately I did not see its underbelly. It has a brown body and black widow looking legs. Its web is kind of hard to see but is strong and thick. Very hard to break apart like a black widows web. I dont know what it is but if its poisonous I need to have it relocated. I hate spiders but i dont want to kill it, its pretty neat looking. Help please? What is this and what does it do?

Moved from ID Request.
This is a male Western Black Widow, they're not considered medically significant like the females (I would still treat them with caution to be on the safe side), however he was likely in a females web so be on the lookout for a female black widow as well.

One of the Widows
Someone should be able to tell you which one. Can't see the details, but may be a male.
