Rusty-patched Bumble Bee, lateral - Bombus affinis

Rusty-patched Bumble Bee, lateral - Bombus affinis
Plymouth Rock, Winneshiek County, Iowa, USA
September 27, 2014
Size: 14 mm
For several days I watched several of these and could not get a decent photo. They were too fast, or I too slow. (This one is not alive.)
They were nectaring on Stiff Gentian, Gentianella quinquefolia, in a faux (planted) prairie. The 10 acre prairie is surrounded on all sides by oak woodland.
