Neocicada hieroglyphica (f. johannis)
A common cicada in parts of the Southeast. Florida populations usu. have less black pigmentation and belong to the taxon N. hieroglyphica johannis.

Populations of this species from peninsular Florida belong to the taxon Neocicada hieroglyphica f. johannis.

NOTE: reduced amounts of blacks, typical of the race "johannis".

Hello,
my first post and the cicada I'm most fimilar with here in southwest Fla (Ft Myers). I found one molting tonight 7/18/05, After capturing it and placeing it in a rearing cage, I'm going to test the singing throey of 2 to 3 days. Even with recorded sounds of the species. Bet you he sings tommorrow evening.
