Califoria horntail - Urocerus californicus - female

Califoria horntail - Urocerus californicus - Female
Jughandle State Natural Reserve - Caspar, Mendocino County, California, USA
September 22, 2014
Size: 3 cm
I found this wasp on a grand fir tree, which I had just watched fall down as I happened to be walking by. It didn't just stand still - it was kind of vibrating like it was doing a little dance. Maybe she was in the process of laying eggs in the fir. Video: http://youtu.be/s-OyWvnFysk?list=UUPslQasv_WRCDNcPAU-RC3w

Siricidae
ok for Urocerus californicus. Perhaps looking for a place to oviposit.
