Large nocturnal spider - Araneus diadematus

Large nocturnal spider - Araneus diadematus
Toronto, Ontario, Ontario, Canada
October 3, 2014
Size: Roughly one inch
I suspect this a female Orb Weaver, but I can't find a matching image on BugGuide. It has been living on our back deck for several days and has a large, approx. 18" web across our dining room window. It spends most nights in the centre of the web, then retreats under a plant leaf (where it is difficult to photograph) during the day. The spider is still there and I can try to get a better image of the eyes/front parts if this isn't sufficient.

Moved from ID Request.

We would have suggested its cousin
Araneus diadematus, but let's see what others think.

Orb Weaver
It Looks like a female Shamrock Spider (Araneus trifolium)
