how about T. tuberculatus?
your dorsal shot from the side seems to have the bumps on the head arranged in an arc, which I believe is diagnosic of T. tuberculatus.

Its not one I recognize. Genitalia may be the best bet. Hopefully its a male!

I'll go back to the carcass and get a couple more... is there a way of determining the sex before I start cutting?

 
Not really
I don't know of any features that distinguish sex externally in this group of beetles, unfortunately.
