Size: 1.25"
Euchloe hyantis / ausenoides? Found on a grassy, east-facing hillside at about 950 ft. elev. 1 pm today. Along with the correct identification, would appreciate the current common name (I have books that say Pearly Marblewing,Edwards Marble, Large Marble ...).

County maps are a good place to start with butterflies.
Check out butterfliesandmoths.org

They list only one marble for Alameda County: Large Marble (Euchloe ausonides). Photo in Butterflies through Binoculars The West confirms this ID. Author is the president of North American Butterfrly Association (NABA), which is arguably the standard setter for common names.

Large Marble
Thanks, Ron. I've used the Buterflies and Moths website before - forgot about it this time. I'm new to butterflies, and new to photography, so still have a lot to learn.

Keep shooting, keep posting
This is a great site to improve your knowledge and skills. It's neat to look back at people's early photos and see how they progress.

Lucky dog! I've only found one of these ever, and it remains one of my all time favorite butterflies. I'd say this is Large Marble!
