Beetle pupa - Cypherotylus californicus
Wolf Creek Pass on the lower part of the trail up to Treasure Falls, Mineral County, Colorado, USA
October 4, 2014
There were about 30 of these pupa attached to the underside of a down pine tree. Many are split open along the back but none emerged. There were no empty pupa or larva around.

One of the Pleasing Fungus Beetles
I have seen groups of Gibbifer californicus pupate in a similar manner.
