Actually, Anaquedius has two distinct punctures on the pronotum (obscured here by moisture), and a prominent inner spur at the protibial apex (barely visible. It is easy to be positive when I have the specimen in hand.

Quediina subtribe is correct guess, insofar.
The elytra of this beetle seem glabrous and impunctate to me. If so, it can´t be Quedius - otherwise, yes.

Well, in this case, by elimination, in Eastern North-America it can only be the genera Anaquedius or Hemiquedius, and since I don't see any puncture in the middle of the front, I think it is Anaquedius.
