Platycerus virescens Parkwood, Durham County, North Carolina, USA April 1, 2007 Size: 11 mm
Detail of head. Note the jaws--the white flecks are pollen, apparently from the Dogwood. This shows the elbowed (geniculate) antennae well. The last four segments form a club, and the segments just distal to the elbow are short and bead-like, very odd-looking. The eye is not divided by a canthus, as in Dorcus.
