Distinctive Caterpillar - Orgyia

Distinctive Caterpillar - Orgyia
Riley Wilderness Park, Coto De Caza, Orange County, California, USA
March 29, 2007
Size: ~1/2"
Looked like a large ant - staggering - at first. Very hairy and slow. On a bench in the middle of a very dark oak woodland. (Probably moth, right? If not many butterflies around - bramble hairstreak, grey hairstreak, common ringlet, sara orangetip, funereal duskywing, silvery whatzit.)
I used to tie fishing flies, and this critter reminded me of a wooly worm.
