I don't think Jeff will be too happy about the quality on this pic, but at 1mm ya gotta take what you can get... when you look at the TINY stuff up close the detail and beauty is incredible... amazing what can be found in rotten wood... I only wish I had a REAL camera so it could be better appreciated...

I'd like someone to give me a confirmation on the family... if we had an expert on this group I'd be willing to bet it could be IDed fairly easily based on the coloration...

Looks like
a ceratopogonid biting midge rather than a cecidomyiid; hard to tell though.
