Cryptococcus fagisuga with orange fungus? - Cryptococcus fagisuga

Cryptococcus fagisuga with orange fungus? - Cryptococcus fagisuga
Mont St-Hilaire, Montérégie County, Quebec, Canada
November 11, 2014
Some portions of this Cryptococcus fagisuga colony was covered by strange orange "silk". My first hypothesis was a parasitic fungus, but I bring one in the laboratory and my observation was not conclusive; at least the scales were alive and don't seem affect at all. Interestingly, I observed many oribatid mites in the orange silk. Next week I'll try to identify the mites and try to understand the interaction between them, the orange silk and the scales.
