I'll vote for C. scrutator.
The size plus the color range and intensity on this specimen says scrutator to me. Dillons give a size range of 25 - 35mm for scrutator and only 17 - 20mm for will*coxi. Their illustrations also show will*coxi to have a shorter head/mandible length relative to body length.

There is also a subtle difference in punctuation on the elytra. But that is hard to see from a photo (I think).

likely... the only other spec
likely... the only other species around here that looks like this (that I know of) is Calosoma wilcoxi... could one of our beetleologists possibly explain how to differentiate the two species?
