Size: ~23mm
Picked off house wall on July 11, fed oak leaves, disappeared 1 week later - can't find it in litter cage - no moth produced (yet).

Not an expert from the south,
but this does seem to fit the description on page 447 in Wagner. If you have an image with more pixels, it would be useful for seeing the shape of the black plumed setae in the subdorsal tufts. But we would agree with your ID

I thought you would be the ones to settle this for me even though it's the south. Honestly, I did not recognize my caterpillar in David Wagner's D. tephra image, but his description of front and back is right on. Better matches are those posted in BG. I add a denser-pixel image of part of the caterpillar and hope you can see in the subdorsal area what you are interested in. It, or the front-end picture, can probably go to Frass.

I discovered Carol Wolf's Dasychira tephra caterpillar picture on an MPG plate as a possible match for mine and was encouraged by what I found on this species' BG page to suggest that this is the correct ID. Distribution fits! I would appreciate comment from an expert of the South.
