Illinois Hover Fly - Platycheirus
Fairfield, Wayne County, Illinois, USA

Size: 1.5 cm
It's a windy day, but these flies were very active in tallish grass behind my house. Land on grass blades and immediately orient head downward, wings closed. This one was nectaring on blossoms of a sedge species.
