Water bugs - Dineutus

Water bugs - Dineutus
Seminole, Pinellas County, Florida, USA
April 13, 2007
Size: 3/4"
See these a lot here, and curiosity has gotten the best of me. They're usually scurrying around in the water in large groups (50 or more?), near the edges of fresh water ponds. Birds don't seem to go after them.

These are whirligig beetles (family Gyrinidae), genus Dineutus.

Have to agree...
After looking at the guide page, there seems to be no doubt. Thanks for the quick reply! Glad to know what they are finally. Florida has not been noted on the Data page yet, so I'll put these on the proper page. Thanks again.
