Gonasita sp - Gonasida

Gonasita sp - Gonasida
Sherman County, Kansas, USA
If you look at the anterior edge of the pronotum, you can see that the corners of the pronotum form forward-extending points, bracketing the head. Combined with the upturned sides of the pronotum makes me believe that this is an Eleodes mimic in the genus Gonasita. If there are any views that would allow for further ID I can take and sharpen them.

Pinned specimens look dark and lack detail.
I think it's lighting, but have no studio experience with digital. (I'm guessing you could just about any light source, then play with white balance. I'd also guess side lighting or perhaps two light sources would help.)

A forum might provide more/better answers.

Ring Light
I'm going to be getting a ring-light soon which should help make my pinned specimens show up much better. Any idea about the actual ID?

Sorry, no.
I just noticed darkness in the pix and your comment about reshooting. Frankly, I have a problem making an ID on pinned specimens. They just don't look the same to me and I'm untrained as to the fine points. Will chime in if something looks familiar, tho.

This better?
I lightened and sharpened each image... does it look better now?

Much better
Hope you get IDs on all your stuff.
