Size: ~8mm
Need help speciating this ant. The nest was under a rock.

Formica sp. (fusca group) - worker
Maybe F. fusca itself, but there are several very similar species.

Thanks Richard. It certainly seems to be Formica but I had not previously seen ants with such a well-defined and block-shaped petiole. F. fusca pictures I have seen have a rounded petiole.
