Tiny Springtail - Ceratophysella

Tiny Springtail - Ceratophysella
Guelph, Wellington, Ontario, Canada
April 14, 2007
Size: Max. 0.4 mm
Still on the dark-field 'arena'. I deliberately deflected the flash to create this shadow effect, in which the legs and segmentation show up relatively well. This species does not appear to be capable of jumping.

Family Hypogastruridae
Given it has 3 distinct thoracic segments.

Maybe a...
Ceratophysella? Unless it was an immature, it sure looks like it's in that genus. But I dunno ... just a guess. Might it just be safer to leave this series in the family page?

Yes, you are right
It could be a juvenile Ceratophysella. It is better then to move the picture to Ceratophysella. It is then more easy to compare the picture with the other closely related ones.

Thanks!
It very much appears to have the feature you pointed to. I'll move the images to family for now.
