Cactus Bug - Chelinidea canyona

Cactus Bug - Chelinidea canyona
Big Bend National Park, Brewster County, Texas, USA
April 2, 2007
Size: 3/4 inch
Found this bug in the Chisos Mountains of Big Bend crawling on cactus. A few days later found another on the Edwards Plateau of central TX, drinking the juices from the unopened flower of a Lace Cactus.

Moved
Moved from Cactus Coreid.

Not C. vittiger
The anterior pronotal spines indicate that this is either C. tabulata or C. canyona, and not C. vittiger, based on comments in this thread: https://bugguide.net/node/view/253825/bgimage

The spines are visible in this photo of C. tabulata (on either side of the head, sticking up from the pronotum):

Excellent remark Alysa!
Absolutely not C. vittiger. Anterior pronotal spines and more dorsal surface of femora carinate, lead to C.tabulata or C.canyona (for our area we can exclude C.staffilesi which otherwise has a special X-shaped pattern on hemelitra).
To differentiate C.tabulata from C.canyona, first I would check the teeth on ventral surface of anterior femora. Unfortunately this are not visible in the picture above.
According to the key given on (1) C.canyona has the 'head with prominent dark stripes at least to beyond eye' while C.tabulata has 'had usually pale, stripes, if present, pale, broken or obscure'.
The 'head with prominent dark stripes at least to beyond eye' is a feature very clear shown in picture above.
Juga and tylus, as far I can see, fit for C.canyona, too.
Description fit for C.canyona in my opinion.
I have never seen a specimen of C.canyona (only C.tabulata) but based on key and on descriptions for these two species I am sure that this one must be C.canyona.
Alysa when you catch a possible misidentification to have a reaction you need to post this on forum to the section 'Possible misidentification' but in this case I will ask for a page for C.canyona and we will see.

That looks right.
