Gray Bird Grasshopper - Schistocerca nitens
Big Bend National Park, Brewster County, Texas, USA
April 2, 2007
Size: 2 3/4 to 3 inches
This impressive grasshopper was in the Chisos Mountains of Big Bend. I have seen other bird grasshoppers but this one is unfamiliar to me. Habitat was oak scrub/grassland.

Gray bird grasshopper.
This is Schistocerca nitens. The black and white marks on the thorax seem pretty consistent in this species.
