Size: very small
Very small beetles collected from a sporulating woodrot fungus fruitbody that was attached to a paper birch tree in the forest. Forest was in northernmost part of Vermont near Canada border.

Dr Pollock says:
"the terminal max. palpomere is THE best way of identifying these critters.... even the close up pic isn't that great at showing a side view of the article... however, I can pretty positively state that it's either O. gracilis Melsh. or O. cultriformis Laliberté. Based on distribution [...] I'd have to go with cultriformis, as gracilis seems not to get as far north."

These beetles collected in Vermont...
from northernmost Vermont. And were likely feeding on fungal tissues or spores or both; fungus is a polypore species and a woodrotter of birch trees. Thanks so much for the help!

yes, they are known to be mycophagous

also, these are not 'very small' by beetle standards; please keep in mind that size data only help if measured accurately in mm, otherwise the field is better left blank
