Meloe sp., female
must see a good dorsal shot to proceed
oblique angles like here are of very little use as it somes to beetle identification
also, next time pls make sure to include sighting date

Sorry
I was sure I included the date as I always have in the other 1,800 or so postings I have made - it was yesterday. Like I said don't deal with beetles and did not have a clue whether ventral, dorsal, oblique might be needed. In fact Blister Beetle is fine if that is correct. Won't happen again. Not sure of your words, does somes = pertain?

oops... 'somes' = comes
hooves too wide for the keyboard
for beetles, Heteroptera, and other arthropods that tend to be dorsoventrally flattened (earwigs, roaches, stoneflies...) the single by far most important piece of imagery is straight dorsal view (worth a hundred of oblique angles in most cases); other angles
may
help but, if posted alone, are of little, if any, diagnostic value -- so obtaining a straight dorsal view is well worth extra effort whenever you want a reliable ID for the bug
now, this one may well be a nice find, given season & location -- but a sharp dorsal view of the forebody (prothorax+head) is critical for figuring out species... (which may not be all that important to you, but i'm very curious to find out)
