This is very interesting-I had to consult Dr. Maruyama, an expert of Aleocharinae.

It looks myrmecophilpus and related to Myrmebiota, Liometoxenus and friends but we both have no idea what it is! It's likely undescribed, possibly at the genus level as well!

Keep an eye out in ant nests, my guess is Lasius ants for additional specimens. So much diversity, even in our own back yards!

I found ant in same trap.
Submitted it to BG as follows: is this the Lasius ants you were referring to?

Still learning my ants so i can't be sure, but what i do know is that this ant is in a different subfamily - Myrmecinae vs. Formicinae, the later which Lasius belongs in. This ant looks like it might be an Aphaenogaster. But, this means nothing. It was a real guess on my part because a similar looking myrmecophile genus Myrmebiota, which I last reference occurs with Lasius. The beetle is definitely something cool, and more specimens means thinking and collecting outside of the box. YOu may be onto something really neat here!

don't worry, the ant pics will get a name soon
