ID Info?
I submitted this sighting to another website (BAMONA) not certain it could be identified. It was confirmed there as this species, so I've taken it on that authority. Apparently it was based on the belief that this invasive species is becoming more common in my area. See also the latest submission for multifera (at this point, mine), a very different grayish beast. But really I don't have, in the end, any beyond-all-reasonable-doubt evidence for myself that multifera could be eliminated.

OK
I think that makes sense. The MPG images for
C. multifera
are misleading and/or wrong. There's an image of my own which I know is incorrect because of the flight date (it should probably be
clavipalpis
) and although John Davis' images are not gray, I see now that they would be gray if the background were white which I suspect that it was. Thanks for the follow up.
