Here's another tip
I'd say you got this one right. A good source of spider info is the World Spider Catalog. It can be tricky to divine info from it, but you can find all the currently known species and some rough distributions for them.

Check out the page that includes the genus Acacesia. There's only a handful of species for that genus and only hamata occurs in the US. That combined with lots of resources with matching pics is good enough for me.
