BG785 C7428 - Latrodectus variolus - male

BG785 C7428 - Latrodectus variolus - Male
Gloster, Gloster Arboretum, Amite County, Mississippi, USA
March 31, 2007
Size: body length 6.7 mm.
This is a male Black Widow (genus Latrodectus). Based on location it could be either L. mactans or L. variolus. I don't have enough information to separate the two. If it were a female, the separated hourglass would suggest L. variolus, but I don't know if this is useful for the male. Is this an adult? I understand that the subadult males also have swollen palps. Proper placement would be appreciated.
