Therevid larva plus ?

Therevid larva plus ?
Santa Cruz, Santa Cruz County, California, USA
March 22, 2015
This was the first photo taken after I noticed the larvae thrashing around. It seemed to give up thrashing after a few seconds, but when I moved it to the log it demonstrated that it could still thrash, again just for a short time. My guess is that the injury / point of attachment is near the head side of the larva. There are two short projections on the free side.
