Crab Spider - Misumenoides formosipes

Crab Spider - Misumenoides formosipes
Fort Bragg, Cumberland County, North Carolina, USA
October 22, 2003

Emaciated crab spider
This poor girl looks like she could use a meal. Spiders have a very elastic abdominal cuticle that can expand greatly to accomodate a large meal, or developing eggs. The shape of the abdomen in this specimen is distorted by lack of food. Perhaps she molted recently, which takes a huge amount of energy.

two-toned
This looks kind of like the two-toned crab spider.
