We think this is a Marsh Fly in the family Sciomyzidae. It is a good match for this image

ID
This is a male Dictya (Sciomyzidae). Would need to examine postabdoment to determine species.

Thanks Bill,
We appreciate your help.
Could species be determined from external detail views, or is dissection necessary?

Definitely.
I concur with the family ID. Not sure of genus, though. The life history of marsh flies is so amazing (if not downright gory and bizarre), that I haven't paid much attention to identifying them:-)
