Euphydryas caterpillar? - Junonia grisea

Euphydryas caterpillar? - Junonia grisea
Scotts Valley, Santa Cruz County, California, USA
March 20, 2015
A caterpillar is seen here on herbage of Plantago erecta. The very blurry white area at center left of the image might be vagulely recognizable as an inflorsecence by those familiar with the plant. An immature inflorescence is seen at upper center.

The caterpillar's large orange eyes are visible here.

Junonia coenia?

Thanks, Yurika
That it a very good match! Must be it. I found on BugGuide info page and elsewhere that Junonia coenia is known to use Plantago erecta as a host plant (as well as many other plants...mainly "Scrophs"). And Alice Abela has CA posts of it feeding on P. erecta that look very much like the cats in my image.

Thanks for your efforts.
