Bristletail

Bristletail
Fort Bragg, Cumberland County, North Carolina, USA
June 18, 2004
Found this one in the bird bath. I don't know if these things like the water or are just getting stuck there.

Jumping Bristletail
I usually see them in leaf litter, but I've also seen them on tree trunks after dark. Maybe they're climbing the bird bath at night.

New classification
These guys used to be a family in the order Thysanura, but now they are in their own order. Haven't committed the new name to memory yet, sorry:-)

I googled it
Order: Microcoryphia
Family: Machilidae
