Currant-tip Borer, dorsal - Psenocerus supernotatus

Currant-tip Borer, dorsal - Psenocerus supernotatus
100 Acre Wood, Winneshiek County, Iowa, USA
April 3, 2015
Size: 4.4 mm
An inadvertent rearing (again).
Sept 12, 2014: collected galls on the stems of Mountain Mint, Pycnanthemum sp.
Inadvertently included lep larva(e) (which ended as a wasp (escaped), a wasp cocoon, and a lep pupa (dead, but no evidence of parasitoids)
Eventually added a stick from the yard for emerging adults to grab onto
April 3, 2015: found this alive in a rearing jar
Looked more carefully at the stick, found the beetle emergence hole, scrapped away the outer stem to find 2 exuvia in an opening with wood bits and frass at either end of the opening
