Elongate Twig Ant With Prey (?) - Pseudomyrmex gracilis

Elongate Twig Ant With Prey (?) - Pseudomyrmex gracilis
Circle B Bar Preserve, Polk County, Florida, USA
April 9, 2015
According to the BG info page, Elongate Twig Ants are carnivores that stalk live insects, particularly lepidopteran larvae. When Karen Finch spotted this critter we assumed that the prey was a caterpillar. The photograph suggests that the prey was something else. All that remains is a pair of long legs, the abdomen or part of the abdomen and the thorax. The legs suggest an odonate but that would be a feat for an ant this size to bring down an ode. Another possibility is that the ant is scavenging carrion. Thoughts anyone?
