Flotsam harvesting Nashua, Hillsborough County, New Hampshire, USA April 20, 2007
Here are some of the thousands of small-to-tiny beetles (and a few other tiny arthropods) from the flotsam. I've counted (with help from Boris) representatives of 27 beetle families so far from this source: Anobiidae, Anthicidae, Brentidae, Buprestidae, Byrrhidae, Carabidae, Chrysomelidae, Corylophidae, Cryptophagidae, Curculionidae, Elateridae, Haliplidae, Histeridae, Hydrophilidae, Laemophloeidae, Lampyridae, Languriidae, Latridiidae, Nitidulidae, Phalacridae, Ptillidae, Scarabaeidae, Scirtidae, Scydmaenidae, Staphylinidae, Sylvanidae, and Tenebrionidae.
Scydmaenidae is a new family for me, already well represented on bugguide by Tom Murray and Richard Lareau.
Bugguide editors can zoom in on this image for a closer look.
