Size: 4.8 mm
Identified to family using several books, and to genus using BugGuide; have I got it right? Two of these showed up at the mercury vapor lamp. One had a very muddy head.

Helichus fastigatus (Say)
Note bare area just in front of the scutellum, bronzy pubescence and complete 1st elytral stria.

 
Are you sure this isn't H. li
Are you sure this isn't H. lithophilus?

 
I agree, this looks more like lithophilus to me.
The apparently silky vestiture seems unique in our fauna to that species.
