New Forum Section - Holographic Content / 3D Models of Insects

Hey all,

I've noticed this forum doesn't have a holographic imagery collection section. Something's obviously not right here!

[Motivation]

You've probably already read the news hinting at this December's debut of a variety of pretty good Virtual Reality consumer devices. Facebook Oculus VR, Microsoft Hololens, Sony Project Morpheus, and Google's Magic Leap are just a scratch compared to the inevitable full-on transition this whole thing is heading for. And while their mind-trick magic may fool some, everyone knows that juicy content is what it's all about.

A Windows 10 release with native AR/VR support is to be shipped sometime this year, but that's probably going to be a buggy (suddenly, a pun) release anyway, suggesting that it's now only a matter of time before people will be doing it everywhere (walking into poles, pedestrians, and fountains all over again). And by the looks of it, it's going to be hilarious for a little while up until it gets good enough (at whatever it does) and becomes a standard way to consume media.

As of early 2015, it's probably safe to assume that Sketchfab.com is a decent start for an online depository for 3D insect data, due to its growing popularity and endorsement by Microsoft as "holography-ready". Other knock-off sites are popping up here and there, but I think this one will do just fine.

[Examples]

Sometime back in 2004, I took my time to create an example of a typical (albeit a low-resolution) entry for my private holographic content collection of various stuff. And now that it's almost time for us to dive head-first into the uncharted territories of immersive media, over a decade later this simple example still does a fantastic job at the thing that it sort of does:

EX1: Grass Spider (Agelenopsis) by overevolve on Sketchfab

And here's another beautiful insect example I found by searching for content labeled "insect"

EX2:Leaf Insect by LamHo on Sketchfab

From where I'm sitting, the collection's current state of development is quite pathetic (my official rating score), and so it begs for more content. Does anyone have any ideas on better alternatives to Sketchfab better suited to execute this task? Ideally, it should already host some readily-accessible 3D data of a variety of insect species. If there is no such, then a contribution for any 3D data of your favorite insect is a good start!
