Moth - Callopistria mollissima

Moth - Callopistria mollissima
Searcy County, Arkansas, USA
April 30, 2007
Size: 16mm
Attracted to porch light.

Weird!
Probably 9631 - Pink-shaded Fern Moth - Callopistria mollissima. The pink and white markings indicate this species. To some degree so do the furry legs. But the pose and legs sure look more like a very different moth, 4675 - Spun Glass Slug Moth - Isochaetes beutenmuelleri. To help with IDs in the future, always try to shoot moths that "tent" or "wrap" the forewings severely as in this case, using a severely low side view. It's worth the extra effort.

Pink-shaded Fern Moth it is
If I were a betting man -- albeit one who knows little about moths -- I'd say it was a Callopistria mollissima. Connecticut Moths has a image that looks like my post, an image taken from a much lower angle. Thanks for that tip.
