mites -
Nicrophorus orbicollis
Reisterstown, Baltimore County, Maryland, USA
May 11, 2015
Size: 1-2mm
I'm guessing the host is Nicrophorus sayi, but I am more interested in knowing what the mites are. They were scrambling around all over the thorax.

I would think sayi would have more curved hind tibiae
but then again.... you should probably wait for more learned views.

I agree
The angle of view is not the best to judge the tibia curvature, but it didn't seems curved enough. Furthermore, the first orange vitta generally extend to the shoulder laterally on
N. sayi
. My best guest is
N. orbicollis
based on antennal club color, elytra marking, and pronotum shape but I cannot be sure without a lateral view. As for the acari, yes, it is clearly
Poecilochirus
.
