Walter, the red spots on the heads are not diagnostic, they are wear spots. This is Genus Acronicta but I'm not sure of the species. I think might be a possibility. See Ken Child's specime here for one with the red worn spot.http://mothphotographersgroup.msstate.edu/species.php?hodges=9246.

Looking at the pictures at this sight I found one that looks like the one that is snoozing on our porch.
