This was one lucky Scarites... had I not already had his ilk in my collection he would be on a pin right now... another data point for the map here

Nice find!
Sometimes it's tough to know where to focus. If you get another of these, try the mandibles, based on what happened in this shot. (It's sorta like human portraiture, where you go for the eyes.) About 1/3 of depth of field is in front of where you focus and 2/3 in back.

I actually find it easier to photograph the smaller stuff with my camera... I've got a Canon Powershot S2 and whenever I try and use the supermacro mode on it I get shadows on what I shoot... and when I try using my macro lens I can't fit the whole specimen in frame... I need to get a REAL camera
