Fungus gnat
So it's family Mycetophilidae!
Greetings

Thanks Gerard
Could this be a European sp.? Problem is that there is only 1 sp. of Mycetophilidae in North America that lacks ocelli. My specimen lacks ocelli and, by default, would have to be Hesperodes johnsoni but Joe has ruled out it being this species. Quite a mystery!

Ocelli
Hello Tony,
It could be, but I'm not sure they are not there. In these gnats it's sometimes very difficult to see them. The median ocellus is sometimes very small or even absent and the other ones can be very small and close to the eyes.
It would be a good idea to check it very carefully!
greetings, Gerard
