A Carpenter Bee,
genus Xylocopa , and a male; note the yellow face, 13 antennal segments. Don't know off hand which species might be candidates, but glad you're sharing what you see in Kansas, Ron.

There are loads of insects at a park and a zoo near my son's house. In particular, I'm surprised at the variety of butterflies flying in the same time frame.
