Short-winged Beetle - Olophrum obtectum

Short-winged Beetle - Olophrum obtectum
Richmond Hill, York Region, Ontario, Canada
May 2, 2007
Size: 6 mm
Very many of these beetles flying about. When held, they exude a strong and disagreeable odor.
Somehow, I'm not sure where this one goes in the guide. ID would be appreciated.

Moved from Olophrum.
I decided to do a little bit of detective work in an attempt to determine the species in this image, seeing that Ontario has three species in the genus, two of which can be seen at Harvard’s MCZ Type Database (margi*natum and conv*exum) and the third, O. obtectum, is already represented in the guide by Brad Barnd's images.
My conclusion was O. obtectum. In this species, the margins of the pronotum are all-rounded, whereas in conv*exum, they are relatively parallel, and in margi*natum are slightly sinuate posteriorly. Of the three, my specimen most closely matches Brad’s specimen.

Good!
Now I know what to call mine when I post it :-)

Rove beetle
One of the rove beetles that does not look like a typical rove beetle. Genus is probably Olophrum.

Thanks both
Roves did cross my mind, though these ones looked so different indeed.
In the Checklist of the Beetles of Canada and Alaska, Campbell and Davies lists three Olophrum species for Ontario: O. consimilie, O. octectum and O. rotundicolle. I was at the library today but none of the references that I found has keys to narrow this genus down to species. So, I guess I'm stuck at genus level once again.
Anyway, thanks for the ID!

yes, very, very probably!
:-)
