The key, which I have still not sent to you, does not work for males. In fact, some males are unknown. Tony may know what this is from experience but males can be tough.

 
Yes, excellent series
Would be nice to be able to compare the specimen (or these photos) with named specimens. Should be an excellent collection in LSU in Baton Rouge.
I keyed it out to Tabanus imitans, I have plenty of females but no males to compare it with.

 
Tabanid ID
Jack Balwin, Professor/Extension Entomologist at Louisiana State University has examined the images and reports that this is "probably Tabanus equalis".
I am requesting a guide page.
