Bug vs Slug - Hylobittacus apicalis

Bug vs Slug - Hylobittacus apicalis
candler, buncombe County, North Carolina, USA
June 22, 2015

looks like Hylobittacus apicalis
a hangingfly. Easily confused with crane flies. The elongated face and four wings (as opposed to 2) are a clue. The left hind wing appears to be caught up in the slug's slime, interesting.

The Moved from ID Request.

Yeah, it was fascinating to watch
I could not tell who was killing whom. The fly was stuck in the slime, but was pulling out parts of the slug to eat. Mutual destruction?

Crane fly I think
