Tachyshex? - Tachysphex
Umpqua National Forest, about 1/3 mile from Diamond Lake, Douglas County, Oregon, USA
June 23, 2015
Size: about 8mm
A colony ( 20-30 burrows) of these tiny wasps were very busy brining small paralyzed grasshoppers into their burrows. Grasshoppers were the only prey we observed. Holes were dug in a compacted, little used parking area. The opening was mostly surrounded by forest. Very little grass. We looked for grasshoppers and wondered where the wasps were finding them.
