freaky gathering of some kind of insect - Calobatina geometra
Elm Fork Preserve, Carrollton, Denton County, Texas, USA

Are these Diptera? Hymenoptera? I'm at a loss, but they sure look cool. They seem to be manipulating a spider's egg sac into or out of a cavity on a trail covered with bark chips. This photo was taken by friend of mine at Elm Fork Preserve. I am currently finishing a biodiversity inventory for this preserve (this is the fourth year of the study)and would greatly appreciate your help.

Big thanks for the identification. Bugguide provides an important public service in the exceedingly difficult task of arthropod identification through the participation of specialists such as yourself. The thing I appreciate most about BugGuide, aside from the obvious scientific illumination, is that they foster a sense of respect for every species through the selection of photos that capture arthropods in the act of being individuals. By weeding out most of the bug-on-a-pin pictures, BugGuides' vast library of species has become as entertaining as it is informative.

Is it in the family Micropezidae?
Looks very similar to a couple of others posted on Bugguide.

strikingly similar
body shape.
That helps point me in the right direction.
Thanks.
